Bar-Retained, Implant Supported Overdentures
At NuSet Dental Implants and Oral Surgery, we offer a set of overdentures that rest on the gums but lock firmly in place to a bar-style mount that’s anchored with dental implants. This whole setup is highly reliable and offers a good combination of flexibility and firm holding power in one.
How Bar-Retained Overdentures Work
Dental implants are an exciting advancement, and many dental procedures are coming from this one advancement. We can attach a firm mounting bar on top of two or four dental implants. This bar locks right onto the implants and creates a secure mounting point for the dentures themselves. It’s important for the bar to be used only after the implants have set up properly over a period of several months, but once the bar is in place, you can start using the dentures to eat and do other regular activities. The bar serves as a locking mechanism and specially designed dentures simply snap into place over the top of it.
Benefits Of Bar-Retained, Implant Supported Overdentures
- Stable Performance: One of the biggest benefits of bar-mounted and gum supported overdentures is that they’re incredibly stable. Whether you are chewing, talking, singing, or doing just about anything else, they should remain firmly in place. Compared to standard implant locking dentures, the bar locking dentures tend to offer a slightly better hold and distribute pressure more evenly throughout the mouth. This makes them more comfortable and dependable overall.
- Longevity: Good quality dentures are built to last for many years, but eventually they do fail. The beauty of our bar-retained denture system is that the bar implant will last for a very long time and even when the dentures themselves fail, it’s easy enough to replace them and continue using the original system. As long as the implants and the bar are installed properly, there is nothing to worry about.
- Easy to Replace: One of the biggest benefits of a bar-retained denture set is that you can easily replace the dentures if anything happens to them while still making use of the bar system. It allows a new denture to clip right into place just like the old one would. That means even when something happens to dentures, or if one is lost, it’s possible to order a replacement and get your teeth back quickly and affordably. Even dental wear isn’t much of an issue thanks to the ease of replacement that is available with this setup.
- Easy Maintenance: Cleaning and maintenance are very easy to do, making it simple to keep them in good shape over a long period of time. There are two parts to cleaning the bar-retained denture setup. The first is brushing the bar itself just like you would a set of teeth. It’s very important to brush around the bar to remove any built-up debris that would otherwise be trapped in your mouth. While doing that, you can also brush off your dentures and submerge them in a cleaning solution just as you would a standard denture.
