Learn More About Overdentures
What is an Overdenture?
Overdentures are a fake set of teeth that are attached to a pair of implants embedded in your mouth. These dentures remain firmly in place and behave very similarly to real teeth. They are realistic looking and offer much of the same chewing performance that standard teeth do.
More Affordable than Implants
While overdentures do make use of a few dental implants, they are much more affordable than a whole mouth made up of implants. Overdentures rely on a similar design to standard dentures, but cost just a fraction of what surgical implants do. If you’re interested in getting the functionality of implanted teeth, but can’t or won’t pay the prices that come along with them, overdentures are worth considering.
Two or Four Implants
Some overdentures rely on just two implants while others make use of four to support the whole row of teeth. The number of implants that you require in your own mouth depends on a lot of factors. We’ll take a look at your gums, your bone structure and your dental needs, and then make a decision about the best number of implants to use. Generally, four implants are better and offers an improved experience, but relying on just two could help you save a substantial amount of money, and four is not always necessary to get the job done.
Regular Cleaning
Unlike standard dentures, overdentures are cleaned like normal teeth. Regular brushing and flossing will help keep them in good shape and offer optimal results over time. If you are considering getting overdentures, just be aware that you’ll have to treat them like standard teeth. There are some overdentures that are removable for more effective cleaning, but most are locked firmly in place, making them look and behave just like standard teeth do.
